If you are like us, your family, friends, office party, girls group, etc all has a grab bag at Christmas time. Sometimes you think that there is no way you can endure one more grab bag game! Well…help has arrived! We found this really fun twist to the grab bag game that our family played last year. Let us introduce…the right-left grab bag game.
You will need a dice to play this version of the game. Everyone brings the beloved grab bag gift, but instead of drawing numbers…you play the right-left grab bag game version.
The Rules
Here are the rules for our version of the right-left grab bag game. The rules are really simple. You roll the dice and the number you roll represents what you need to do.
1 = steal another person’s gift (and give them yours)
2 = pass all the gifts to the left
3 = pass all the gifts to the right
4 = open your gift
5 = assign two people to swap gifts (other than yourself)
6 = guys only pass to the left (or you could make it girls)
When it is your turn you roll the dice and if you rolled a 3 everyone would pass the gifts to the right. If you rolled a 1 you would take someone’s gift and give them yours. If you rolled a 4 you would open your gift (if it wasn’t already opened).
When it comes to stealing a gift, it can only be stolen 3 times. The third person stealing a particular gift, gets to keep the gift and sits out the rest of the game. Stealing can end up being the most fun part of the right-left grab bag game!
The game is over when the last person opens their gift.
Have Fun With It!
It can get pretty intense as the gifts are getting opened and several people want the same gift! This is what makes it a lot of fun! 🙂
This is one of those games that you can change around. You can have the numbers on the dice represent whatever you want them to. Maybe you want the game to end after a certain amount of time, even if they are not all open. However you want to play it, it will be a lot of fun! Get inventive and creative!
There was a group of 8 of us who went to dinner and played this right-left grab bag game version last night. There was a $10.00-$15.00 gift limit. The gifts included a few fast food restaurant gift cards, a coffee mug, an extension cord, a bottle of wine, a ceramic coaster set and some Bath & Body Works goodies. Everyone said they loved this version of the game and would definitely enjoy playing it again. It took about 30 minutes or so to play it.
So, the next time you have to play the grab bag game, get creative with it and have a lot of fun! You will enjoy it and I guarantee your fellow party goers will also.
