I have loved Texas Sheet Cake since I was a little girl. It wasn’t something my mom made, but I had a couple of friends and their moms made it fairly often. It wasn’t until my children were grown that I ever started making it.
Slow Down A Bit
I have found that as I get older I am trying new things. It might be new recipes or hobbies that I am now engaging in. I am also picking back up some things I used to do but for some reason wasn’t doing anymore or as often. Reading is one such thing that I don’t do near as much as I used to. Growing up and into my young adult life I was an avid reader. I always had a book with me. It wasn’t until recently that I have been reading a lot more.
Why is that? I think, at least for me, the busyness of life just got in the way. I was busy raising children, helping my husband rehab houses, moving us all over the place with my husband’s corporate jobs, going back into the workforce for myself as our children got into high school, running our children to different activities and most recently helping with my mother and father-in-law through some health issues.
It wasn’t until recently, after starting our blog Small Town Living USA that I have been able to find time to renew old passions and pursue new ones. It has been so much fun trying my hand at so many new things and enjoying lost ones.
Give Me The Recipe Already!
So all of that to get around to saying that I now am making the Texas Sheet Cake from my childhood. This recipe is from my sister, Janel. She started making it in her adult life also. Go us!
If you have never had Texas Sheet Cake it is kind of a twist between chocolate cake and a brownie. It is absolutely delicious! If you like chocolate cake and brownies then I promise that you will also like Texas Sheet Cake!
I have to say that Texas Sheet Cake is not the most glamorous of cakes that you can make, but it most definitely is one of the tastiest cakes you will ever eat!
Don’t Use a Normal Cake Pan
You will need a 13×18 inch sheet cake pan for this recipe. This is a flat cake and it doesn’t rise much at all. This is one cake that you don’t want to rise!
We cannot begin to tell you how delicious this cake is! A large glass of cold milk goes really well with this scrumptious Texas Sheet Cake.
I am so glad to be back in the kitchen exploring new recipes now that my life has slowed down some and I have the time. Now I will take my cake and glass of milk, go sit in my favorite chair and enjoy it while I do a little reading.
Hopefully you get some time to start enjoying new and old things also. Discovery and rediscovery is such a fun thing! Have an awesome day!
