Oh So Good Chili is the perfect name for the chili we have made for years and years. It is a family favorite and we haven’t ventured from it. While we enjoy eating other chili from friends and family or getting some when we are out…this is most definitely our go-to chili recipe at home.
Here comes the really embarrassing part…it is pushing the lines of even being semi-homemade! As much as Sydney and I love to cook and bake, this simple recipe doesn’t require much at all on our part (except for tearing open packages and opening cans). It is kind of funny that one of our very favorite recipes, almost isn’t a recipe! 🙂
Our Favorite Types of Seasonings
McCormick Chili Seasoning Mixes are our go-to for the seasonings. I know, you are surprised! McCormick makes the perfect blend of exactly the right seasonings. Why try and duplicate it? It is already exactly right for our taste buds. We have two personal favorites for the chili seasoning mixes. McCormick Chili Hot Seasoning Mix and McCormick Chili Tex-Mex Seasoning Mix.
The hot mix is just a good old-fashioned hot blend of seasonings. The Tex-Mex blend has a great smoky and Chipotle blend of seasonings. We love both of them equally and grab whichever we are in the mood for. Now, if hot is not your thing, McCormick Chili seasoning mixes come in a variety of flavors. They have a mild seasoning mix if that is more to your tasting. I do want to go on record here as saying that we are not receiving anything from or working with McCormick & Co. We just purchase and use their chili seasoning packets. Plain and simple!
Oh So Good Chili Tips
You can cut this recipe in half if it makes too much for you and your family. We love having leftovers so this is perfect for us. This recipe keeps perfectly in the refrigerator or freezer. So why not make some extra for those hurried days?
One tip we can give you is to use petite diced tomatoes. This keeps you from having larger pieces of tomatoes in your chili. We personally like the petite tomatoes. They are more bite sized.
This is one of those recipes that the longer it simmers the better it tastes. Make sure to simmer it for at least 30 minutes. If you can simmer it for a few hours it will allow the seasoning mix to infuse into the chili. Yum!!
The toppings are the really fun part! We love cheddar cheese on top of our chili. The more the merrier when it comes to cheese!
Top the cheese with some green onions, a little sour cream and serve with corn chips. This is our favorite way to eat chili. Kind of a Tex-Mex way to eat it. My husband, Jim, enjoys a couple drops of hot sauce in his bowl of chili.
If you are more traditional then enjoy this chili plain with some good old saltines.
When we have the time we love to make corn bread to serve with it. This buttermilk cornbread recipe paired with our Oh So Good Chili is absolutely delicious. The sweet, buttery cornbread is the perfect compliment to the hot chili. And it is homemade, so it is not the crumbly, dry stuff out of the box. I am really getting hungry writing this article. 🙂
This meal is true perfection! Even if it isn’t truly made from scratch.
However you enjoy your chili, we hope you give one of our favorite recipes a try!
Writing this article has made me hungry. So since it is very cold out today and blowing snow, I think I will go and make us some for dinner tonight! 🙂
