Good morning! I am sitting here at The Depot as I am writing today’s blog post and enjoying a Milkyway Latte (milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla). Yum! I am really enjoying trying all these new coffee houses. Might become a habit, oh my! Of course, Sydney had her normal tea this morning!
This past weekend we went to the Oregon District in Dayton, OH to do some shopping and have lunch.
We started with lunch at Old Scratch. It is this really cool pizza place in Dayton. Their address is: 812 S. Patterson Blvd, Dayton, OH 45042. It has these really tall ceilings and lots of metal and iron.
The pizza is baked in a fire brick oven. I love pizza that is prepared like this! We got pepperoni and sausage on ours. It was really good. Definitely will be going back to get some more! Was worth the trip in the cold and snowy weather to get here and try this amazing pizza.
They have some great menu options. Some just for you and some to share (if you are the sharing type!).
For all of you Old Scratch pizza lovers, they even have t-shirts and hoodies. Loved theses!
If you are ever in Dayton, this is a must-stop place!
After lunch, we found this really neat botanical boutique called Luna Gifts and Botanicals.
This is a botanical lover’s paradise! So many botanicals, so little room to put all of them.
The gift options are endless, even if botanicals are not your thing. The soaps and candles smelled amazing!! So many of their items are locally made, and we love featuring businesses that use local artists.
There is so much packed into this small store. So much to look at and choose from. I ended up selecting a botanical ring from the jewelry section of the store.
The lady helping us explained that Luna is owned by 4 women who also own a couple other businesses in the Oregon District of Dayton. Luna has been in business a little over a year. They are located at 261 Wayne Ave, Dayton, OH 45402. If you like this type of store or are looking for unique gift items, then look no further! Luna Gifts and Botanicals has you covered!
After shopping the afternoon away and being in and out of the snow and freezing weather it was time for a much needed coffee break! Press Coffee Bar, at 257 Wayne Ave, Dayton, OH 45402, to the rescue. What a great place!
I ordered the Mocha Cappuccino and it totally delivered! The owner even added this amazing touch of foam art. It was almost too beautiful to drink, notice I said “almost.” 🙂 But, I made the ultimate sacrifice to drink it. So delicious!
Sydney’s husband Austin ordered the French Press Colombian Coffee. He loved it!
Aside from having great coffee, the atmosphere here is very inviting and relaxing. You want to come and stay awhile.
The owner shared with us that Press Coffee Bar had been in business exactly 7 years to the date that we were there (1/13/18). How neat was it that we were there on their 7 year anniversary? Pretty cool!
Their baked goods are all made from local establishments. Again, gotta love places that keep it local!
I think one of the things that really stood out to me was the constant stream of repeat customers. The owner and his helper knew many of the patrons by name. One young lady ran behind the counter to get a hug before placing her order. This lets you know Press Coffee Bar is doing some great things!
On our way home we made a side trip in Troy, Ohio, to Jay and Mary’s Book Center. I was in desperate need of a few books. This is one of my favorite shops! They are always so helpful when you have questions but seem to know when to leave you alone and just let you browse. They have this perfect combination down!
They have something for everyone here. They have the classics, travel books, fiction and non-fiction, history, how-to books, a great children’s area, and even magazines. You really can find it all here.
On this particular day I was after a few of the classics. They had a really great selection. It was hard choosing just a few. Finally, I narrowed my selection down to the three books below.
I literally could spend hours here browsing through the books. Bookstores and coffee shops are two of my very favorite places! I have tried loading books to my iPad and reading them from there, but it just isn’t the same as holding a book in your hands. There is just something about holding a book in your hands that is just part of the whole reading experience. Also, books have a unique smell that also adds to the experience. I can’t really explain it, but I know that you true book lovers out there get me on this.
If you are ever in the Troy area and are book lovers, you must make time for a visit to this great store!
We had a really great time exploring the Oregon District in Dayton, Ohio and then ending our trip with a visit to Jay and Mary’s Book Center in Troy, Ohio. Despite the blowing snow and freezing temps we still had a very fun and productive day!
Have a great day and for those of you who are enduring the cold, stay warm!
