There are some really fun and great things to do as a family in Louisville, KY. Sydney and I visited Louisville for a foodie adventure trip and were able to fit in some activities along the way. Need some Louisville family activities? Look no further!
Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay
We have always been fans of theme parks, so a visit to Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay was a definite must go to for us. We are so glad we made time for this amusement park because it was a lot of fun! The temperature was in the mid 90’s when we were here, so we were super thankful for Hurricane Bay (the water park). It was perfect for the hot temperature in the afternoon.
There are so many different rides and water attractions available for your family to discover. Way more than we could ever begin to get pictures of. We have included just a small sampling of the rides and attractions available at Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay.
We spent the morning riding rides while it was not so hot. It turned out to be a really good decision. Whether you are a thrill seeker and love roller coasters or prefer a more gentle and less scary ride, like the old fashioned cars, Kentucky Kingdom has you covered! They have rides for both extremes on the thrill chart.
For those of you with little ones they even have King Louie’s Playland. This area is perfect for toddlers and smaller children. It is packed with rides and colorful activities that are age appropriate.
When it became really hot in the afternoon Sydney and I headed to Hurricane Bay. Wow! This is such a fun place to cool off!
One of the biggest surprises Hurricane Bay had to offer was their free sunscreen station (yes, I said FREE)! How awesome is this? We are always horrible at remembering our sunscreen during adventure days. Plus, sometimes you just don’t know where to store it at…but Hurricane Bay has you covered!
This is the perfect way to spend a family day. Go on rides in the morning, spend the afternoon at the water park, and then finish up with more riding in the evening. Most definitely the perfect family day!
If Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay are not on your Louisville family activities list, they really need to be!
The Louisville Zoo
Sydney and I also love zoos. We try our very hardest to visit a zoo on every trip we go on. The Louisville Zoo is a must add to your things to do in Louisville. It was so much fun.
Sydney and I have a love of gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans. These are our favorite exhibits, hands down! So we will start our tour of the zoo with the gorillas.
The Louisville Zoo offers a couple of really neat extras. Check out this high ropes course for the older kids & adults and the water cooling station for the little ones. Such neat things they have here at the The Lousiville Zoo that you don’t expect.
There is plenty of food and snacks available at the zoo for you foodies out there! Whether you want a cool drink, ice cream, a Dole Whip or pizza…you can find it at this great zoo. They even have a lunch special of the day! Check out some of the goodies that we had to eat.
Once again, we couldn’t begin to include pictures of all the zoo animals and things to do here. I guess that means that you will have to make a trip for yourself so you can discover all the fun and food that we just didn’t have room to include in this article. You’ll definitely want to add The Louisville Zoo to your Louisville family activities list!
Parklands of Floyds Fork
If nature and hiking is your thing then a visit to Parklands of Floyds Fork is a must. We had such a great time exploring some of the different trails and checking out the nature center. There is so much to see and do here. They also have a little splashground area for kids to cool off in. Love this!
Welcome all hikers, walkers, and bikers! There are trails of all different lengths for you to choose from. We absolutely love that many of the trails are wheel chair accessible. Such a nice and considerate touch!
This is the perfect way to spend a day with the family. Do some hiking or bike riding on the beautiful trails, pack a picnic lunch, and then let the little ones finish burning off their excess energy at the sprayground and playground areas. Another great way to spend a family day.
We actually had planned on spending another day exploring Louisville, but due to a family emergency we had to return home earlier than expected. I guess this just means that we will have to make another trip back so we can finish doing all there is to do and finish eating all there is to eat in Louisville, KY.
Make sure to check out where we stayed at during our trip! It was such a unique lodging experience! And who can forget food?! We had to eat, right? 🙂 We put together a list of restaurants to check out in Louisville for our fellow foodies out there.
If you are wanting a weekend getaway or a week long family vacation Sydney and I highly recommend visiting Louisville, Kentucky. It is such a fun and family-friendly city.
