The dark warm wood tones of the downstairs common areas flow beautifully into a much lighter and airy feel of the upstairs rooms. It is such an indescribable feeling to be in such a historic inn.
History of Granville Inn
The Granville Inn is located at 314 E Broadway, Granville, Ohio. It was built in 1924 by John Sutphin Jones as an inn. On June 26, 1924 an estimated 5,000 guests attended the opening reception of the Granville Inn.
When John S. Jones died in 1927 ownership of the inn passed to his daughter Sallie Jones Sexton. Unfortunately, Sallie didn’t receive her father’s gift for finance and eventually lost the inn. In 1976 Robert Kent purchased the Granville Inn at a sheriff’s sale.
In 2003 the Kent family sold the inn to Granville Hospitality, which was a group of local investors. In 2011, the lending bank foreclosed on the inn, stating it was due to $1,700,000 of debt.
Denison University purchased the Granville Inn in September 2013 and is the current owner today. There are around 80 people employed by the Granville Inn.
This gives a little of the history of the inn and the previous owners. Now we will share with you our experience and stay at the Granville Inn.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast during our stay. We can’t say enough about how amazing our food was, but it was their coffee that sent me (Stephanie) into caffeine heaven. It was some of the very best coffee I have ever had! If you have been following us for very long, you know how important my coffee is to me!
Our Guest Room
Our room was absolutely beautiful! There was so much natural light pouring in. The windows and fixtures had a vintage vibe to them. And the mattress…let’s just say it was beyond comfortable. The Granville Inn has 39 guest rooms! So you can come with just that special someone or bring your whole extended family with you.
A bottle of wine was such a nice and thoughtful touch! We truly appreciated it!

It was so nice because our stay here was the first break we had in the weather. The temps got up into the 50s and Sydney and I were able to take a walk around the grounds. It was so peaceful and gorgeous.
