One of the many neat things Sydney and I get to do is meet with people who are making their dreams come true. It is an honor to hear their stories and be able to share them with you. This next story is about a husband and wife team who are making their dreams come true with The Farmhouse Bakery.
Masterminds of The Farmhouse Bakery
We visited with Johnathon and Carmen Light at The Farmhouse Bakery located between Troy and Piqua, OH. They both got their start in the hotel industry. Carmen has been baking professionally for the past ten years. She went to culinary school in Mexico and completed her internship in the United States. While here she met Johnathon and they married while working in the hospitality industry together.
Johnathon is from the Miami County area originally. After most recently working in Florida, they moved back to the area to be with his family about two years ago. They built a house here and added a home bakery onto their home.
While Carmen does all the baking, Johnathon is active in the marketing and advertising piece of the business. They got their start here in Ohio about a year ago at local farmers markets.
Where To Buy The Farmhouse Bakery Goodies
Three days a week Carmen bakes for Purebred Coffee Co. in Troy, OH. This happens to be one of our favorite coffee shops in the area and Sydney and I were first introduced to The Farmhouse Bakery’s goodies here! One day a week she bakes items for Haren’s Market in Troy and Davis Meats in Sidney. Carmen said she currently bakes 5 days a week for about 6 hours a day.
As the weather warms up they plan to be at local farmers markets at least one day a week and at Fulton Farms in Troy, OH.
What Did We Try?
Sydney and I got to sample some of Carmen’s baking magic. Her lemon coffee cake was delicious. As were the scones which had roasted peaches, a lavender glaze and honey drizzle. Amazing! Her cheesecake with strawberries, raspberry jam and fresh whipped cream was beyond perfect! So good!
We asked Johnathon and Carmen what their very favorite baked goodie is and they both answered, without hesitation, Carmen’s old fashioned chocolate cake. Their young children love her sugar cookies. 🙂
Carmen takes custom orders and is open to baking you anything you would like. She offers allergy free desserts and baked goods also.
They attribute part of their growing success to the fact that they use the highest quality ingredients available and use local sourcing whenever possible.
The Farmhouse Bakery is looking forward to what the future brings and would like to see their business grow. They are considering many ideas including offering retail days where customers can drop in and purchase items. Also, on the list of possibilities, is offering donut days. Sounds like a couple of great ideas to us! 🙂
