Sydney and I had an amazing time learning about the floral business. Neither of us have much of a green thumb, so this is something we know very little about. What I can tell you is that our tour was absolutely fascinating! I think I fell in love with fresh cut flowers by the end of the tour! For me it was all the vibrant and beautiful colors. I never really gave flowers or plants much thought one way or another (except to steer clear of them – no sense in ending their little lives way too soon!). Our visit to Ethel’s Flower Shop has me wanting to put them all over the house!
Dawn Bushu has owned Ethel’s Flower Shop for the past 15 years come May. She said she is the first owner of Ethel’s Flower Shop that has not been a family member. The flower shop originated in the early 1900’s. It was passed down through the family until Dawn had the opportunity to purchase it.
Ethel’s Flower Shop is located at 239 Scioto St, Urbana, OH, 43078. Dawn said that they service Urbana, Mechanicsburg, North Lewisburg, St. Paris and Springfield areas. Their phone number is 937-653-5201. You can order flowers in person by coming into the shop, phone in an order, or order on-line at www.ethelsflowershop.com.
They had just gotten these in earlier in the day. They are so beautiful!
I love the bluish-purple and yellow combination of the ones below. I definitely am drawn to flowers by their colors, where as many people are drawn by the type of flower.
Flowers were everywhere. They were so delicate and I felt like a bull in a china shop. I was so afraid of bumping into them.
These next ones definitely caught my attention. Look at the orange and yellow bold colors! So cheery!
If softer and more subtle is to your liking, the ones below should fill the bill. 🙂
Ethel’s Flower Shop is part of Teleflora. They even had an order they sent to South Africa one time. Wow! It is kind of hard to imagine sending flowers from here to South Africa. 🙂
As you can probably imagine their busiest season is Valentine’s Day. The second busiest season for them is Christmas. Funerals, followed by holidays and then weddings make up the majority of their business.
Plants are very popular with their customers, as well. Look at these beautiful green arrangements!
Here are a couple of my favorite arrangements! So loving these colors!
They make these super cute candle bouquets. You enjoy the flowers now and when they are gone, you get to enjoy an amazing smelling candle. How unique is this? They offer small and large candle bouquets. I will definitely keep this in mind for gift ideas!
Select your candle and they will make you a beautiful arrangement. It is as simple as that!
Another great idea is their mug bouquets. Enjoy the flowers now and drink coffee out of the mug later. Right up my alley being the coffee lover that I am!
Ethel’s Flower Shop even carries some delicious candy from Marie’s Candies. Come get some goodies today.
May through August you can find succulents at the flower shop. They are very popular as of the past few years. They also carry a few silk succulents so you can enjoy them year round.
They carry many gift giving items. It is so nice to have some different and unique choices. Whether it is for a birthday, Mother’s Day, shower or wedding gift they have such a great selection!
Vickie Smyers is a local Ohio artist who makes these beautiful folk art figurines. You can see the attention to the smallest detail. I love when small businesses support other small businesses.
Red roses are the flower of choice for Valentine’s Day, bet you didn’t see that one coming. 🙂 For Mother’s Day potted geraniums are the most purchased item. The popular and trending wedding day bouquets contain succulents, greenery, and eucalyptus. With wedding and prom season right around the corner, make sure you check out all that Ethel’s Flower Shop has to offer.
Brighten up someone’s day (even if it is yours) and order something beautiful from Ethel’s Flower Shop. You will be glad you did!
